Comfortable bus travel after 60: the essentials

Choose the right bus

ADO Platino has fewer, wider seats with a deep recline, a personal screen and a toilet. ADO GL has more legroom than the standard bus. On our sample date there were 11 Platino departures from Cancún to Mérida (about 4h 20min–4h 50min, from about US$61) and 12 from Mexico City to Oaxaca.

The INAPAM senior discount

  • ADO gives 50% off to passengers aged 60 and over with an INAPAM card, Mexico's senior card, or an original official ID showing their age.
  • Only two discounted seats are available per bus, so book early. The discount can't be combined with others.
  • Bring the original card or ID, not a copy, and show it at boarding.
  • INAPAM cards are issued to people aged 60+ living in Mexico. If you are visiting, ask at the ADO ticket office whether your passport is accepted for the discount; it isn't guaranteed.

Travel at an easy pace

  • Travel by day: you'll see the landscape and arrive with time to settle in.
  • Keep journeys to 2–5 hours and rest a day or two between them.
  • Mexico City (about 2,240 m), Puebla and Oaxaca are at altitude. Take the first day slowly and drink plenty of water. The Yucatán Peninsula is flat and at sea level.
  • Your bag goes in the hold and is loaded for you. You can carry up to two small bags on board.

Which ADO bus is which?

  • ADO: the standard first-class bus, with air conditioning, reclining seats, screens and a toilet.
  • ADO GL: more legroom, power sockets and USB ports, a drink on board and a toilet.
  • ADO Platino: the most comfortable option, with fewer and wider seats, a personal screen, Wi-Fi, a power socket and USB ports at every seat, and a toilet.
  • AU: a cheaper, simpler service. The booking site does not list a toilet on AU buses, so on longer trips choose ADO, GL or Platino.

The bus type is shown for every departure when you search.

Bus times, fares and onboard features on this page come from the ADO booking flow for Saturday, December 5, 2026, and can change. Discounts, luggage rules and accessibility services are set by ADO and can change too: check the conditions shown when you book, or ask at the ADO ticket office. Entry fees and opening hours are set by each site.
