Question 1

What is the Feria Yucatán Xmatkuil?

Accepted Answer

The Feria Yucatán Xmatkuil is Yucatán's biggest annual fair, held every November on the outskirts of Mérida. It began as a large agricultural, livestock, industrial, and artisan exhibition for the state and has grown into a popular festival that combines livestock shows, regional food, crafts, rides, folk performances, and major concerts. The 2025 edition was the fair's 51st, making it one of the longest-running traditions in the Yucatán calendar. For visitors, it is a lively way to experience local culture alongside Yucatecan families, and Mérida's location makes it easy to reach by ADO bus from across the Yucatán Peninsula.

Question 2

When is the Feria Yucatán Xmatkuil 2026?

Accepted Answer

The Feria Yucatán Xmatkuil 2026 runs from Friday, November 6, to Sunday, November 29, 2026 , for 24 days of activities. The fairgrounds usually open from morning until around 2:00 AM, according to local guides, but confirm daily hours on the fair's official channels. The biggest concerts take place mostly on Fridays and Saturdays, while weekdays tend to be calmer. With more than three weeks of programming, you can easily plan your visit around a specific concert or combine the fair with a wider trip to Mérida, Valladolid, Campeche, or the Riviera Maya.

Question 3

Where is Xmatkuil and how far is it from Mérida?

Accepted Answer

The fair takes place at the Xmatkuil fairgrounds, on the grounds of a former hacienda about 15 km south of Mérida's historic center. The site includes livestock pavilions, exhibition areas, a ride zone, the Teatro del Pueblo, the Palenque, and the Centro de Espectáculos Montejo, which hosts the largest concerts. Depending on traffic, the trip from downtown Mérida takes around 30 to 45 minutes by car or taxi. Traffic around the fairgrounds can be heavy on concert nights and weekends, so leave extra time. Most visitors stay in Mérida and travel to Xmatkuil for the afternoon and evening.

Question 4

How do I get to the fair from downtown Mérida?

Accepted Answer

The easiest options are taxis, ride-hailing apps, or Mérida's Va y Ven public buses. Ride-hailing apps such as Uber and DiDi operate in Mérida, and local guides note a pickup and drop-off point at the Arco de la Feria on Calle 50. In 2025, several Va y Ven routes served the fair, including route R10 from the historic center, with extended night hours. The 2026 public transport routes had not been announced at the time of writing, so check official Mérida and Yucatán transport channels before your visit. If you drive, arrive early on concert nights and expect parking fees.

Question 5

How much does it cost to enter the Feria Yucatán Xmatkuil?

Accepted Answer

The official 2026 entry price had not been announced at the time of writing. For reference, general admission in 2025 was 35 pesos per person, with parking at 45 pesos per vehicle, according to local reports. Entry gives access to the fairgrounds, the livestock pavilions, exhibitions, and the Teatro del Pueblo. Rides, food, and the big paid concerts are charged separately, and some concerts at the Centro de Espectáculos Montejo are free with fair entry. Check the official fair website and social media channels for 2026 prices, and bring cash in small bills, as many stalls do not accept cards.

Question 6

Which concerts are at Xmatkuil in 2026?

Accepted Answer

The 2026 lineup announced in local media includes paid and free concerts at the Centro de Espectáculos Montejo. Paid shows include Carín León (November 13), Marco Antonio Solís (November 14), Christian Nodal (November 21), and Ozuna (November 28). Free concerts announced include Original Banda El Limón (November 6), Deorro and 3BallMty (November 7), Reik (November 18), Ha-Ash and Matisse (November 19), Los Caligaris and Los Auténticos Decadentes (November 25), Cañaveral (November 26), Santos Bravos (November 27), and Bronco (November 29). Lineups can change, so confirm dates on the official channels before you book your trip.

Question 7

How do I buy concert tickets for the fair?

Accepted Answer

Tickets for the paid concerts are sold through the official ticketing partner and authorized box offices. For 2026, local guides point to TusBoletos.mx and authorized outlets such as the Teatro Armando Manzanero box office in Mérida. Ticket prices vary by artist and seating zone. Avoid buying from unofficial sellers on social media, as fake tickets are a recurring problem around the fair. Free concerts may require arriving early to secure a good spot, as they can fill up quickly. If you are traveling to Mérida for a specific concert, buy your concert ticket first and then book your ADO bus around the date.

Question 8

What food can I try at the Feria Yucatán Xmatkuil?

Accepted Answer

The fair is a great place to taste Yucatecan street food. Look for panuchos and salbutes, small fried tortillas topped with shredded meat, cabbage, and pickled onion, as well as cochinita pibil, the region's famous slow-cooked achiote pork, served in tortas, tacos, or panuchos. For dessert, try a marquesita, a crispy rolled crepe often filled with Edam cheese ( queso de bola ), and finish with esquites or elotes. Refreshing drinks include horchata, agua de jamaica, and chaya with lime. Carry small bills, as most food stands work with cash.

Question 9

What else can visitors see and do at the fair?

Accepted Answer

Beyond the concerts, the fair offers livestock exhibitions, crafts, rides, and regional entertainment. The livestock pavilions, where the fair began, host exhibitions and contests and are best visited earlier in the day. Artisans and exhibitors sell regional products, and the Teatro del Pueblo presents regional music, folkloric ballet, comedy, and local artists, including a traditional vaquería. Families can enjoy the ride area, with roller coasters and a Ferris wheel, as well as circus and children's shows. The Palenque hosts separate ticketed shows on selected nights. Check the daily program, as activities change throughout the fair.

Question 10

How many people visit the Feria Yucatán Xmatkuil?

Accepted Answer

The fair attracts millions of visitors each year. According to official figures cited by local media, the 2025 edition closed with more than 3.5 million visitors, and local reports said it welcomed nearly one million people in its first six days alone. Attendance is highest on weekends and on the nights of the big concerts, when traffic and lines grow considerably. If you prefer a calmer experience, visit on a weekday afternoon. For weekend visits, book your accommodation in Mérida early, as November is a busy month in the city, and plan your bus travel in advance.

Question 11

How do I travel to Mérida by ADO bus from Cancún and the Riviera Maya?

Accepted Answer

ADO operates frequent direct buses to Mérida from Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and Valladolid. The journey from Cancún takes around 4 hours, from Playa del Carmen around 4 to 5.5 hours, from Tulum around 4 hours, and from Valladolid around 2.5 hours, depending on the service. Buses arrive in Mérida's city bus stations, such as the Mérida Única bus station, from where taxis and ride-hailing apps can take you to your hotel or directly to the fair. Compare departure times and service classes online, and book your return trip in advance, especially for weekends.

Question 12

Can I travel to Mérida by bus from Mexico City and other cities?

Accepted Answer

Yes. ADO connects Mérida with Mexico City and many cities across southeastern Mexico. Direct buses from Mexico City take around 22 to 23.5 hours, so many travelers break up the trip or combine it with stops along the way. Shorter options include Campeche (around 2 to 2.5 hours), Villahermosa (around 9 to 10 hours), and Bacalar (around 5 to 6 hours). Journey times vary by service and departure point, so check the details when you book. Mérida's central location also makes it an excellent base for continuing to Valladolid, Campeche, or the Caribbean coast after the fair.

Question 13

What are the best tips for visiting the fair?

Accepted Answer

Arrive in the late afternoon, bring cash in small bills, and travel light. Local guides suggest arriving around 4:30 PM to enjoy daylight and shorter lines, then staying for the evening shows. Weekdays are quieter, while weekends bring the biggest concerts and crowds. Wear comfortable shoes, bring a hat or sunglasses for the afternoon and a light layer for the evening, and use insect repellent near the livestock areas. Leave bulky bags and valuables at your hotel, agree a meeting point with your group, and plan your return transport before the concerts end.

Question 14

What else can I do in Mérida in November?

Accepted Answer

Mérida is one of Mexico's most attractive colonial cities and an ideal base for exploring Yucatán. Stroll around the Plaza Grande and the Mérida Cathedral, walk along the mansions of Paseo Montejo, and visit the Gran Museo del Mundo Maya. November brings milder weather than the summer months, which is pleasant for sightseeing. From Mérida, you can take day trips to the Maya site of Uxmal, the yellow town of Izamal, and the region's cenotes. With ADO buses to Valladolid, Campeche, Cancún, and the Riviera Maya, it is easy to extend your trip after the fair.
